Three Essential Factors Influencing Today's Market đź‘€

Here are 3 key things driving the stock market today, all of which I will be mindful of when making my SPY Trade of the Day this morning.

First off, Fed Meeting Minutes Release (2:00 PM ET)

Markets are bracing for the Federal Reserve’s March meeting minutes, which could offer clues on the central bank’s rate path and concerns around stagflation (rising inflation + slowing growth). 

Even though this meeting was before Trump’s April 2 tariffs, Fed officials had already flagged risks to inflation and economic growth—so any signs of hawkishness could rattle markets further.

Second, Fed Speakers Throughout the Day

Several Fed officials are speaking today and here is what I pulled from the economic calendar:

  • Tom Barkin (11:00 AM ET)

  • Patrick Harker & Austan Goolsbee (12:00 PM ET)

  • Susan Collins (4:00 PM ET)

I’ll be watching for any updated views on interest rates, inflation, and the impact of recent tariffs.

Lastly, Tariff Shock Aftermath

The market is still digesting the April 2 tariff escalation announced by President Trump.

 This surprise move has sparked volatility, with SPY and major indices sharply lower since then. 

Although we did see a sharp rise on Monday, it was very quickly swallowed up by the single biggest drop in market history yesterday as SPY fell nearly $40 dollars from the morning high.

All this being said, markets are extremely volatile and tricky to trade right now so I’ll be using our 15 minute ORB lesson once again this morning to help guide me in my decision making and it will all happen LIVE right in the Market Masters Room.
